DIY

For those with the skills and the time there is of course the option to do your own servicing. If you fancy having a go there are a number of things you must consider. Remember Greener motoring is not just about the driving but also the waste and what you do with it that counts. The first thing to consider are the parts. Not only should you look to buy quality parts in order to get the maximum life expectancy and efficiency but you must consider what to do with the old parts. Garages have a legal requirement to get their waste collected, as much can be recycled such as batteries, exhausts, brake components etc. This costs the garage to comply so it's unlikely they'll be willing to take your old parts off your hands. They are equally likely to be reluctant to take your old oil. With one litre of oil able to contaminate a million litres of water its important you take your responsibility seriously. Your local council should be able to advsie you of your nearest oil, car parts and battery recycling centres
