Two Right Feet

A clumsy right foot can lead to increased fuel consumption, increased component wear and the most erratic and uncomfortable drives for your passengers
So you accelerate hard from the lights to then have to brake hard at the next set, or for that car that just pulled out. Driving smoothly does not require Jedi skills, it just takes some craft. Keep your car moving in traffic and anticipate the road ahead. Keeping sensible distances between vehicles means you’ll avoid hard braking and therefore save the wear on your brakes (saving more money). Concentrate on the accelerator, don’t over rev, and try to have a light pedal. This is a simple easily learnt technique that will increase fuel consumption. Try this first on an open stretch as you start to get the hang of it. Get the car up to a sensible cruising speed and try to maintain it. Once you’ve got into that groove, without lifting off the accelerator, remove the pressure in your foot. Sounds a bit daft but try it. If your car has a trip computer showing instant mpg you’ll see how more efficiently you can become, just make sure you concentrate on the road at the same time. Failing that choose a car with cruise control
